An Air Ministry compass corrector was fitted underneath the Spitfire, and all other RAF fighter and bomber aircraft, main compass tray. The Pilots Compass needed to a give a 'true north' setting for him to fly a correct course. The corrector achieved this, but first it needed to be set correctly. This was carried out using a special key, by the instrument ground crew during the aircraft's scheduled servicing. The corrector has four key adjustment positions (4 points of the compass) where the adjustment key can be inserted to adjust the internal magnets of the corrector, to establish a correct setting. This Bakelite unit is in excellent condition with good Air Ministry markings. There are two patterns of adjustment key and this is the rarer type of the two. It is nicely stamped with A.M. and Crown plus it has the stores reference number.
