RAF photo album.

The leather bound album is a size 12 x 7". It contains some 47 pages of various sizes of original black and white photographs.

The photos start with No.5 initial training wing at Torquay, Devon. He is then posted to the U.S. & Canada for pilot training, under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Here he gains his pilot wings before being posted back to the UK for wartime operations (did he survive the war ? ).

There are some great subject photographs amongst the group, including air training, aircraft, airfields, uniform and flying clothing photos. Approximately 90% of the subject matter is RAF related whereas the rest are views and places of interest (Niagara falls, etc..). One page has some interesting shots of a huge dust storm which hit the airfield at 36 E.F.T.S (Pearce, Alberta) on Easter Sunday, 1941. Other pages show a snow storm which engulfed the airfield control tower and then when the snow thawed, leaving aircraft and the hangars flooded ! Some extreme weather conditions. There are some good shots of training aircraft and of RAF uniforms and flying kit. Other pages have photos of US officers in uniform etc....

An interesting wartime album, in need of research.
