German tile breaker incendiary bomb inert

SOLD

An INERT German tile breaker incendiary bomb.

During WW2 these bombs were dropped by the German Luftwaffe on towns and cities. The UK saw hundreds of these magnesium fire bombs dropped each night during the blitz. Most exploded and burnt fiercly on impact, but some like this one, fell as a dud or were rendered harmless quickly by the civil defence or armed forces.

This example is in a very good condition. It has been opened and cleaned out (see photos). The heavy solid steel nose cap unscrews freely by hand, and there seems to be little damage to it. The cap is stamped, which is still legiable (see photos). There are clear markings on the body, with a 1936 date, it could have been repainted at some time.

For SALE TO THE UK only, due to postal restrictions.
