Original signature by Group Captain, Leonard Cheshire VC OM DSO** DFC.

Leonard Cheshire was the youngest Group Captain in the RAF and one of the most highly decorated pilots of the War.

He became commander of the legendary 617 Dambusters Squadron, and whilst with them Cheshire helped pioneer a new method of PFF marking of enemy targets for Bomber Command. It involved flying in over the target at a very low level, and in the face of strong defences, using the fast and versatile de Havilland Mosquito.

Nearing the end of his fourth tour of duty, in July 1944, having completed a total of 102 missions Leonard Cheshire was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Cheshire, aged 74, died on 31 July 1992.

The cover is in excellent condition.
