RAF log book and medal group to Wireless Air Gunner, Sgt. G. Woolley.

Sgt. Woolley passed his air gunner's and wireless operator's course's towards the end of 1943. He was then entitled to wear the WAG brevet. He was then posted to number 29 O.T.U. at RAF Bitteswell, and then onto 14 O.T.U. at RAF Market Harborough, Leicestershire. It was here that he teamed up with the rest of his crew including his pilot, P/O, E.M. Amatt.

After a coversion course on Lancaster's, the crew were posted to RAF 61 squadron based at RAF Skellingthorpe.

Their first operational sortie came early in September 1944 flying a night operation to Kaiserlouton. Their second operation was a daylight raid to Wilhelmdhaven on October 5th. Another 'Op' next day to Bremen, followed by a further night time' operation to - Brunswick, Bergen. November 1944, bought a day raid to Homburg, then a night Op to Harburg, followed by another day time raid on Duren. Further raids this month to Dortmund Ems canal, Trondheim, and Munich. December 1944, started with a day raid to Urft dam, followed by two more times to the same target. On the 17th Dec. a night raid to Munich, then to Gdynia, Politz, and finally this month to Houfallize. January 1945 came with a day raid to Ladbergen (Dortmund Ems canal) and a night Op to Houffalize. February 1945 bought the squadron on raids to Karlsruhe, Dortmund Ems canal, Dresden (Firestorm raid) then to Rositz, and Mitteland canal. March 45, bought a busy time for the squadron, and for Sgt. Woolley's crew with operations to Bohlen, Sassnitz, day time to Essen and Dortmund, night raids on Lutzkendorf, Wurzkerg and finally Wessel in between two day raids on Bremen and Sgt Woolley's final operation of his tour to Farge. The crew had successfully completed 33 operations over enemy territory, mainly Germany.

Sgt. Woolley's Log book entries end here, presumably he went on a well deserved leave and with the war's end, finally with his demob.

The log book is well written, and has good rubber stamps and officer signatures. There are 52 pages of entries and his operations are in need of further research. These are all copied from the Squadron ORB and are included in the enclosed file. The log book cover is a little tatty, but all of the pages are present. His medal group of three is included - 1939-45, France & Germany stars and War medal, all in excellent condition. A copy squadron photograph with some research is also included.

A fine Lancaster full tour, WAG grouping.
