A Rare & unusual grouping to a pre war flying circus airman, and then a RAF pilot.

Derek, Concannon, Greet, Wright was born on 14/04/1912. At an early age he became fascinated by mechanical things, especially aircraft. In 1930 he began an engineering apprenticeship with the RAF. Upon qualifying and then serving with 604(F) Squadron at RAF Hendon, where he often flew as an observer in the famous pre war pageants. In 1935 he left the service, and he became an aircraft engine mechanic/engineer with C.W.A. Scott's Flying Display (Circus).

With the group is his superb photo album from his time with Scott's, which contains 150 photos of various aircraft, pilots, stunt men and women who performed with the Circus and even one who hung from an aircraft on a trapeze by his teeth ! There are some excellent photos of various pre war aircraft and vehicles plus the pilots who flew them. Most of the 3.5 x 2.5" photographs have descriptions.

Wright then re joined the RAF as a Volunteer Reserve and he learned to fly, gaining his pilots wings in 1938 with an above average assessment. With war looming he became an instructor for the RAF and with the group are his two civil flying log books where he flew DH60, Hart, Hind, Tutor, Magister, Harvard, Oxford, Anson, Heyford, Battle and Blenheim aircraft. His last recorded flight in log book two is on 25th October 1940. According to a letter, with the group dated 1941, he had a bad Asthma attack which may have put a stop to his wartime flying. He is then in wartime service as a RAF Squadron aircraft engine fitter until 1945. His log book two starts to record his post war flying again in 1947, and it continues until becoming full in 1950.

The group contains a ring binder which holds his official RAF forms and letters, including one with 604 squadron for his early flying gear. There are three cartoon strips for 604 squadron, and his RAF pay book and his service and release book. Included are his two Air Ministry pilots licences for 1938-39 and for 1949-50, some more photos and his A.M. service 'wash roll'.

Three framed photographs of his time with 604 squadron are also included.
