RAF bomber command commemorative medal with box and certificate.

Circular medal and ribbon bar suspension, ribbon and pin fastener. On the face is inscribed RAF centrally within a wreath below a Tudor crown, this is encircled by six smaller wreaths bearing the wartime aircrew qualifications. From top left O, AG, E, B, WAG and N.

On the reverse is a Lancaster bomber as seen from below, and the dates 1939 and 1945 to either side. Around the edge, a tribute to the aircrew of bomber command.

The medal is mounted on original ribbon and comes in it's fitted case. Complete with certificate of issue numbered 5515, and with original signature by RAF G/Captain Bill Randle CBE, AFC, DFM.

There was no official campaign medal issued to the aircrew of Bomber Command despite the loss of more than 55,000 personnel during World War 2, and following a campaign led by the author Alan Cooper, this unofficial medal was produced in 1985. It was made available for sale to veterans of Bomber Command and their next of kin, with part of the proceeds going to the Bomber Command Association.
