RAF B-type leather flying helmet, with rare un-attached zip ear coverings.
This classic RAF flying helmet is famous for the type worn by fighter pilots during the Battle of Britain.
Air Ministry Ref. No. 22C/65, clearly stamped on the outer leather side (see photos). With a clean B. Sterling & Co. Ltd, label stitched inside, dated 1939 (see photo). The chamois leather inside lining is nice and clean showing very little wear, although the helmet has had a name (which is now crossed out) and therefore it has been issued. The AID stamp is still visible.
With zip ear receiver coverings, which unusally have never been stitched to the helmet and so can be easily removed. These still show signs of the Air Ministry stamps, and with perfect working zips and leather pullers. The helmet has been correctly stitched around the side holes to accept the zip ear's (see photos). The coverings come with a pair of black rubber cushions inside.
The helmet outside chrome leather is in an excellent condition.
The Bennett's buckle fastener's are complete and the leather chin strap retains it's metal V end piece, all in great condition.
This unusual helmet is in an excellent overall condition.
