RAF navigators MkVIII bubble sextant in its original wooden carry case.

This sextant was the earlier predecessor to the more common Mk IX.

Used pre war and during the early war years, in Whitley, Hampden, and Blenheim bombers etc.....before being phased out and replaced by the more efficient Mk IX sextant.

This early example is marked up as Air Ministry, and is dated 1938. Made by H.Hughes & Sons Ltd; of London.

The excellent wooden carrying case, with leather handles, has a brass plate with the same maker and reference numbers (see photos). Inside it has the battery, lead and bakelite plug.

The sextant has a folding adjustable viewing screen and a sun screen, with adjustable wooden wheels and castings, which are in a good working order. There is a light bulb present in the holder for night use, and the overall the condition is very good, but the lens looks to be in need of a clean.

A rare item.

Not for sale to the EU.
