A pair of the classic Battle of Britain RAF flying boots.

These, large size, 1939 pattern boots are similar in design to the earlier 1936 pattern all leather boots. Instead, these boots have a vulcanised heavy cotton canvas upper.

This pair have an Air Ministry stores reference code of 22C/231, for a large size 11 (these are the largest size we have seen in this pattern of boot). They are dated 1939, and with corresponding contract numbers 8833/39 (see photos).

The leather shoe parts are in very good condition and the leather soles and rubber heels are old replacements. The canvas uppers are in a good condition, with some wear and tear to the inner ankle part, where this pattern of boot usually show signs of it. The upper webbing straps and metal buckles are very good. The inside fur is good and clean and odour free. Both boots retain their inner leather pullers which are Air Ministry & Kings crown stamped and have clear 1939 dates. They are named on the opposing pullers to a F/Lt. D.W. Browne.

A good, large size example of a much admired and sought after boot.

Not for sale to the EU.
