Rare, metal IFF switch box for early Spitfire & Hurricane fighters.
Air Ministry stores Ref. No. 5C/372.
This early 12 volt type metal switch box was later replaced with the more common, economy black bakelite version.
The switch box allowed the pilot to operate his morse Identification Friend or Foe radio signal and to switch on his coloured IFF lamps.
These metal Air Ministry marked switch boxes very rarely turn up, especially in this near to pristine condition.
The last photo shows the type in situ, inside a Mk IIa Spitfire cockpit (below the bulb holder).
