RAF 1939 pattern flying boots

RAF 1939 pattern flying boots

Code: 10518

SOLD

A pair of the classic Battle of Britain RAF flying boots.

These 1939 pattern boots are similar in design to the earlier 1936 pattern all leather boots. Instead, these boots have a vulcanised heavy cotton canvas upper. This pair have an Air Ministry stores reference code of 22C/229, for a size 9. They are dated 1939, and with corresponding contract numbers B12936/39 (see photos).

The leather shoe parts are in excellent condition and the soles and heels are original. The canvas uppers are in excellent condition, with very little wear and tear to the inner ankle part, where this pattern of boot usually show signs of it. The inside fur is very good and clean and odour free. Both boots retain their inner leather pullers which are Air Ministry & Kings crown stamped and have clear 1939 dates. They are named to a F. Ellis.

A superb example of a much admired and sought after boot.
